A former insider from the Biden White House is blowing the lid off what he describes as a toxic, cult-like environment driven by “mean girl” politics and blind loyalty.
Michael LaRosa, who served as press secretary for First Lady Jill Biden from 2021 until mid-2022, is calling out Democrats for what he says is a culture of bullying and backstabbing that defined the administration’s inner circle.
In an interview and op-ed, LaRosa said the Biden bubble was dominated not by service to the American people, but by an insular group focused on policing loyalty and undermining anyone viewed as an outsider.
LaRosa wrote per the New York Post, “Harris’s forthcoming book, according to recently released excerpts, says what insiders whispered for years: the Biden bubble was full of bullies,” and added that the vice president was “finally saying the quiet part out loud.”
He described the workplace dynamic as one ruled by “mean girl” politics—cliques that punished dissent and elevated loyalty over merit.
LaRosa’s claims come at a time when Vice President Kamala Harris is preparing to release her book, 107 Days. Excerpts already circulating echo the dysfunction LaRosa describes. Harris reportedly accuses Biden’s staff of undermining her, planting negative stories, and deliberately boxing her in politically.
LaRosa didn’t hold back in his critique, drawing sharp comparisons to pop culture. “Inside the White House, the Regina Georges of Biden’s circle ruled like mean girls and policed loyalty,” he said, invoking actress Rachael McAdams’ notorious role in Mean Girls.
According to him, “Staff weren’t serving a president and first lady — they were serving a cult. You never knew when Regina was in charge or when the Bidens were. It was all blurred.”
Reflecting on his time inside, LaRosa added, “Joe and Jill Biden were warm, decent, empathetic. But they enabled some of the nastiest and most mean-spirted people I’ve ever encountered in politics. That contradiction defines the Biden era.”
As he explained, “Biden’s final mission, he said, was to save the country from Trump — who Democrats consider to be the ultimate bully. But bullies are everywhere, even among Democrats, and despite his brand — even around Biden.” In his op-ed, LaRosa refrained from naming names but left no doubt about his frustration.
He pointed directly to Jill Biden’s powerful chief of staff, Anthony Bernal, as a central figure in that culture. Bernal, who has long been seen as one of the most influential advisers in Bidenworld, was accused by LaRosa of fostering an environment where staff were more concerned with currying favor than serving the public.
The alignment between Harris’s claims and LaRosa’s first-hand experience is fueling questions about how deep the fractures run inside the Democratic Party. For a party already rattled by poll numbers and President Trump’s surge in approval, LaRosa’s revelations land like a grenade. Democrats are now facing the awkward reality that a former spokesperson for the First Lady herself is painting a picture of dysfunction and disloyalty at the highest levels.
Even inside the party, there’s growing frustration with a leadership culture many say is defined by personal loyalty, not policy. LaRosa’s words strike a nerve because they feed into an already growing narrative that the Biden administration is rudderless and consumed by infighting.
The explosive allegations from Jill Biden’s former spokesman may be just the beginning. With Harris’s book about to hit shelves, more dirty laundry is sure to be aired.
